Methane is often an overlooked greenhouse gas when it comes to climate change. Its emissions total less than those of CO2 and its warming effect does not last as long. However, methane molecules are able to trap 84 times more heat than CO2 within the first two decades of their existence. In this article James Temple, MIT Technology Review's senior editor for energy, gives insight on the process of removing methane from the atmosphere. The removal of this gas would have the potential to reverse one-sixth of the warming effect caused by all of the greenhouse gases.
