In 2015, over two-dozen nations agreed to the Mission Innovation pact to develop technologies for combating climate change. Part of this agreement included a pledge by nations to double private and public investments into clean energy technologies research. In this article James Temple, MIT Technology Review's senior editor for energy, reveals that annual investments have only increased by approximately $5 billion since 2015, despite the baseline having been set at $15 billion. In addition, it is shared that the International Energy Agency recently reported that only seven of forty-five energy technologies and sectors it assesses are on track to meet Paris climate agreement goals.
